Norman Sherman - Events of November 10, 1812
(Left-click to listen)

The events of November 12th, 1812 was commissioned by the Kingston Symphony Orchestra, and it was they who gave its first performance.  It has been well received in all subsequent performances.  The composition, which is programmatic, was inspired by historic reports of the attack upon Kingston by the American Forces during the War of 1812; the text of the narration having been selected from excerpts of war proclamations by General Brock and an actual eye witness report of the attack upon Kingston, as published in a local newspaper of the time.  The music was inspired by marching tunes of the period, thus making the composition not only patriotic but pure Canadiana as well.
